Another breakfast at Cracker Barrel! We returned another book on CD and grabbed a new one. We were going to go to Palo Duro Canyon this morning, but it was COLD! As we started to go there though, it started to snow a little worse than it already was. Faced with getting stuck in Amarillo, we decided to get on the road. Heading out of town we managed to find Cadillac Ranch, despite it being very easy to miss! We didn't have any paint with us, but some people leaving had some and let us use it! We marked a few cars and took pictures. It was cold though, so we soon got back on the road!
Leaving Texas was quick and easy, there was a little bit of construction, but we moved out pretty quick. Once we got to New Mexico though, the story changed. Snow started falling down harder. Not enough to make it impossible to drive, but enough that we definitely had to start slowing down. That also was not too bad. But then traffic stopped. We were going nowhere! Then we had the misfortune of seeing in between the two lanes as we changed lanes, and we saw just how far the lack of movement went.
We finally got moving again, and gained another few miles. It was short lived though, since we had to stop again. This time we didn't move for about 15 minutes or so (just see the long stop in the time lapse movie). We finally picked up speed again, and this time we made it clear all the way to Albuquerque! The view improved as we went, no more flat, endless lands! At least until Arizona tomorrow...

Okay, so... when I say I am not a morning person -- well, I mean it. Another morning where the hour says a number that isn't two digit-ed in the front of the minutes. Slept alright, woke up with allergies. I think the dramatic weather changes are effecting me, or something. It's cold. Very cold. Snowing too. The further Southwest we go, the colder it seems to get.
It was going to be a very very easy going day. Short drive from Amarillo to New Mexico. But... boy were we ever wrong. But I digress -- let's continue! Because it was so cold out today with threat of snow and ice we did not go to these canyons that were only 20-30 minutes from the hotel. We sorta thought: "Hey, we're going to see the Grand Canyon. Are we really going to risk the bad weather to see these baby canyons? Uh, no." So we didn't go. Instead we found our way to the Cadillac Ranch which was SWEET! We spray painted on the cars and had a awesome time. That is until our fingers and butts grew numb. At least... thats what happened to me. After posing for pictures, spray painting on the cars and trying not to step in any cow patties we quickly made it back to the warm comforts of Miss Pearl.
So there we were. Finished with the Cadillac Ranch. Too easy now to head West to New Mexico right? Wrong. The weather got semi-bad and with it the brains of every driver on the road. I think we came across five or more accidents. Some we got severely stuck in and had to simply park and wait until something or someone did something. It took us... yes, hold onto something: 6 AND A HALF HOURS! A seemingly 4 hour drive turned into a 6 and a half hour drive. We were both exhausted and thrilled to finally make it into the city and find our way to the hotel. The hotel was a haven for sure! We were lazy the whole night going to the hotel lounge and eating. They have pretty dang good hamburgers and fries. Not bad prices either. Okay, I need rest. Tomorrow we're driving to the Grand Canyon. Crazy stuff for sure.
Love!
