Perhaps you're reading the header on this page and saying, "Hold on a minute here, Rock Springs isn't Jackson, and it's definitely nowhere near Yellowstone or Grand Teton national parks. What's happened to this part of the roadtrip? Do I get my money back?"

Yes, I know, and well, sorry. Of course if you're reading this after the roadtrip has already happened, well then you never knew different, and isn't that handy? Anyway. Weather was not looking good a few days out, when we were going to be booking the hotel for Jackson, Wyoming. After having dealt with some unexpected snow in the southwest on our way into New Mexico, we were less than enthusiastic about snow we knew about, so we decided rather than head into snow that's in the mountains (much worse than snow in flat desert), we'd stick to southern Wyoming and stick to interstate 80. Since Wyoming is the least populated state, it doesn't come as much surprise that with this adjustment, there wasn't really much touristy things to do in Wyoming other than the two parks we were now avoiding. Except for Devil's Tower, and that's in the complete other northern corner of the state, definitely in the wrong direction. Alas! Rock Springs it seems would be little more than a holdover. But I suppose you can't see something cool and amazing everywhere you go on a trip.

The drive itself was pretty uneventful, much like the day before. The mountains were ever constant, though we traded one range for another more than once. Naturally there were more than a few Mormon churches as we moved towards Utah, though not much else was all that special. As we started south towards Salt Lake City, there were some bigger mountains to the east, with clouds very low, almost like a ceiling for people who live at the base I imagine. We saw a little bit of the Great Salt Lake, but aside from looking wet it was much like any other lake. You can't really tell that it's so big from the edge, I've seen plenty other lakes that go off into the horizon.

The last bit of the trip went pretty easy, as the interstates got more and more straight. Quite a difference from the west coast! The only downside was the weather. It was pretty dreary as we went past Twin Falls, though we actually missed the exit since Twin Falls isn't right next to the highway, so you don't know it's there till it's gone! We had gone past it a bit before we noticed, so we decided to just bite the bullet and keep going. We drive long enough on some days without turning around and doing some parts again. Oh well.

Rock Springs itself is a pretty small place, though bustling by comparison to the surrounding area! I suppose this is the place to go if you live in southwest Wyoming. The hotel was one of those places that leaves you wondering when you see the outside, but inside is just fine. Good thing, cause we were tired!

Not much to say. Early morning. Lots of driving. Had lots of rain. Some snow too. Many more cows, rocks, and dead grass were seen. Then we're at our hotel! And that's that.

Sleep. zzz
