Thankfully a short drive today! One of the advantages from changing our Wyoming stay to Rock Springs rather than Jackson was a much shorter drive to Denver. I'll take that anyday!

Unlike when we were heading west, the downside of heading east is that any bad weather has a good chance of following you all the way. We'd had some rain when we were leaving Seattle, and it hadn't really improved on the day after, and hadn't today either. Like southern Idaho, there's not much to southern Wyoming aside from the landscape. While it is a unique thing to see if all you see is Virginia normally, I have to rate the southwest of the US a bit more interesting. Same style, but things are just more extreme down there. Doing the southwest before the less mountainous Rockies makes the latter less exciting.

Coming into Denver we found the hotel with practised ease, though they had some interesting keys. Rather than the magnet strip that everyone else uses, they had a card that looked like someone had gone crazy with a hole punch. Interesting!

I called my friend Mike once we got settled, and decided to get together for dinner the next night, after Dena and I had gone to see the art museum. For this evening, we wer just going to take it east and catch up on the website and sleep. We could sleep in the next day, which would be good, since the day after was going to be a very long drive along a very boring Kansas highway.
