Our last day of driving was somewhat uneventful. The route is one we've done more than a few times. I had though of maybe taking I-40 into North Carolina and then go up into Richmond, but it added some time and the trip is already a very long one. Add to that the time change adding an hour and it is even longer, technically. We started today with one last trip to Cracker Barrel, giving Nate a wake up call before. Like a true friend, he made it out there on a Sunday morning. We didn't go too early today, since we knew we wouldn't be driving anywhere the day after. Just drive to Richmond and sleep. No hotel to check into, no sightseeing. Easy!

We left a little after 10am, certainly the latest I've ever started this trip. We were already east of Nashville though, so we had some stuff in our favor. We made it through Nashville pretty quickly, no traffic to speak of. As we turned up north for the long stretch on 81, things slowed down only a few miles from where we would turn east on 64, coming almost to a stand still. We still had our map though, so we followed it and about 20 tractor trailers onto Rt 11 going alongside 81 and made it through the traffic in record time!

As we did the last stretch, it was still hard to believe that it was all soon to be over. We had a sunset to our backs, and then I noticed that it was becoming so dark that even with all my darkening lenses taken away from the webcam, the time lapse was going to be a little dull, since you could only see the 10 feet in front of the car, and then brake lights as people passed us. Oh well! It's the last one, so maybe the ending will just be sped up.

We arrived at my place at a little after 9pm, and promptly set to unloading the car one last time. This took a few trips and some scambling to find Dena's book (anyone who reads as much as us knows that losing a book is just plain annoying). Sleep came quick.

What a roadtrip! It went smoother than I'd ever hoped, since with 27 some odd days, you can almost expect something to go at least a little wrong. We had no terrible hotel experience, didn't have the car break down on us on a long stretch of isolated road, never ran out of gas.. All the horror stories just didn't happen. More importantly, we never fought, as some assumed we would after being in a car for so long. Happy to disappoint! We still like each other quite a bit, and haven't called off the wedding. Go us!!

Thus ends the roadtrip.
